YPERIA 2009

 Successful  7th International Convention for Culture & Tourism.

 
   The 7th International Convention YPERIA 2009 with general topic “Culture & Tourism” was successfully completed, with high attendance, and important announcements. Journalists and TV producers from Austria, Belgium, Bulgary, France, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, Canada, Belarus, Holland, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Russia, Serbia, Sweden and Czech Republic participated.

The acquaintance with the civilization of Amorgos was made, by visiting the monuments of the island, like the famous 1000 years old Monastery of Virgin Hozoviotissa with the relative presentations by Rev. Father Thomas Synodinos and by the guidance to the Hellenistic Tower of Holy Trinity in Ancient Arkesini by the Professor Archeologist  Mrs. Lila Maragou.

The beautiful nature of Amorgos was enjoyed through tours in the countryside of the island, and special presentation of herbs and their therapeutic properties were made by Dr. Vageli Vassalo and by the  experimental botanologist  Mr. Nicholas Theologitis.

The Polish Journalist Mrs. Luda Zach presented her thoughts about traditional art and ecological souvenirs.The consultant of sustainable tourism, Mr. Theodore Colonas, talked about green tourism and the Architect – environmental historical Mrs. Viviana Metalinou talked about preservation of Agricultural Monuments on Amorgos.

Mr. George Kapetanakis, guided us in one windmill being reconstructed in Hora..

Mrs. Ewa Kotus, referred to the Tour Film Festival in Poland which she organizes since 2006. Other events which took place during the convention were the Painting Exhibitions of English Painter Mrs. Judy Atwood, of the French Painter Mr. Michel Constant, of “Klimaka” organization for Psychological Health and the photo exhibition of the Polish Photographer Andrzej Danowski.

The projection of the Oscar winner film “Peter and the Wolf” of the Polish producer Mr. Zbignew Zmudski, of the documentary film “Amorgos – portrait of an Island” by Polish producer Mr. Jacek Wann, were also high points. The documentary  film related to silk production on Amorgos by Giouli Tsotsoli and Vagelis Vassalos, and the Hiking Paths on Amorgos  produced by  Mr. George Dambasis were all a special experience for those who watched them..

The results of the Convention were summarized by the Attorney Journalist and President of the Cycladic Association of Journalists, Mr. Manolis Lignos who congratulated on behalf of all participants the President of the Convention Mrs. Irene Giannakopoulos, her team and the staff of all departments at Aegialis Hotel & Spa for their excellent services.

The visit to the villages and the countryside of Amorgos, the meals with traditional dishes, in addition to the music, the songs and the dances, gave us a complete picture  of the culture and customs of today of the beautiful and picturesque island of Amorgos
