ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION

With our organic garden we try to protect the environment as much as possible.

• First of all it's a way to contribute to the number of plants and trees on the planet and so to convert carbon into oxygen. It is said that if we each planted one tree every year, this would be enough to cancel out our carbon emissions.
• Also having a garden is a way to provide a habitat for lots of lifeforms and you encourage birds and insects to thrive and to reproduce. This is further important for the ecosystem as each creature plays a role for helping the environment and encouraging other life forms. This is why Nikitas doesn't use any chemical products, synthetic fertilisers and pesticides but concentrate on organic fertilizers. Of course these products reduce the number of slugs that might damage your cabbage but they are actually very important for other aspects of the ecosystem. Worse though, by introducing poisons into the environment these can find their way through the food chain and can even find its way into a human diet.
• To reduce water consumption, the garden is mainly watered by rain water collected in tanks from the hotel roofs.
